Job Description

The Johnsonburg Mill is located near the Allegheny Forest on the headwaters of the scenic Clarion River and is recognized as one of the most technology advanced paper mills in the world. The mill is focused on finding people who want to improve reliability of the mill, machines, and reliability of the product and driving results. We are looking for a Superintendent who will manage a challenging, high speed, lightweight paper machine that makes a diverse grade mix with challenging equipment such as a single nip shoe press. You will be resposible for the employees and operations of a modern early 90s vintage machine built when mill was expanded, with speed of 4,100 top speed ft. per minute with a 235in width with a wide grade mix producing 20 lightweight financials & 27-70lb grade mix. The mill is a 100% hardwood pulp mill and runs two uncoated freesheet paper machines. The responsibilities of this job are all production related activities for #5 Paper Machine Department, including safety, environmental, quality, production, and employee relations. This includes the direction of all operation salaried employees and indirect supervision of all hourly operation and some hourly maintenance employees. This position reports directly to the Paper Mill Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify, plan, and coordinate continuous improvement activities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and profitability initiatives of a high speed paper machine.

Ability to lead safety improvements through personal commitment, procedure adherence, and emphasis in reducing workplace risks.

Skills & Requirements
    JOB QUALIFICATIONS (refers to job, not incumbent):

    10+ years of operating experience on paper machines; preferably complex large scale running a fine paper/coated or uncoated machine.

    Minimum high school or equivalent education, bachelor’s degree in an engineering field is preferred.

    A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar personal computer programs.

    The candidate should be able to demonstrate expert papermaking knowledge as well as troubleshooting skills and techniques to solve quality and operational issues on paper machines.

    Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Previous supervisor experience in a union environment is required.

    Willingness to work off-schedule hours as needed to support the operation as required.


Job Description

The general responsibilities of the Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Supervisor are to provide direction and supervision of unionized personnel to meet the maintenance and support requirements of all areas of the mill in a timely, efficient and safe manner.  Specific duties involve supervision of Multi-Craft personnel in the pulp & paper areas.  This position does require the individual to be part of a duty coverage team rotation that requires weekend and on- call coverage.


Supporting Activities

Monitors usage of Personal Protective Equipment and housekeeping practices and takes corrective action to remove safety hazards and ensure work areas are kept organized and safe.

Investigates incident and substandard condition or near miss reports in a timely and thorough manner.

Provides required safety training for department personnel.  Identifies opportunities, implements procedures and provides additional training to minimize risk of personal injury or property loss.  Provides training and education necessary to improve skills and knowledge.

Supervises Labor Union personnel in the safe, timely and effective execution of their responsibilities.

Directs and coordinates personnel in identifying equipment and facilities maintenance problems and preventive maintenance tasks, and ensures effective execution of the work for reliability improvement.

Coordinate and assign work, oversee multiple concurrent jobs, and adjust as necessary during planned maintenance shutdowns.

Develops and manages maintenance service contracts.

Develops and maintains accurate technical documentation and procedures.

Sources and procures parts or services required to support maintenance work.

Recommends improvements to equipment, processes, methods and procedures.

Interfaces daily with purchasing, accounting, maintenance, engineering, and operations employees, and supports all operations.

Develop an understanding of Plant processes and operations.


Qualified candidates will have:

    A Bachelor’s degree in Electro-Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education/certification and experience.

    Minimum of 3-5 years working experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

    Knowledge of manufacturing process equipment, and basic equipment maintenance procedures.

    Knowledge of and experience with Electrical and Instrumentation systems troubleshooting and repair.

    Recognizes a sense of urgency and displays the ability to engage people in a positive manner to move outlined initiatives forward.

The Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Supervisor oversees the Pulp and Power department's electrical and instrumentation maintenance and reliability reporting to the Pulp and Power Maintenance Superintendent.     Coordinating the day-to-day activities of a work group of about 10 employees.

The Continous Improvement Manager is responsible for delivering continuous improvement to our finishing operations. This role’s primary responsibility is to assess our processes and machine capabilities and identify/measure areas to drive sustainable improvement in cost/spend, yield, throughput, delay, quality, and speed – and then lead/direct resources to address opportunities in a systematic fashion.
